Macéo Levy becomes Mozart Open men’s Champion!

Today Austria’s biggest squash event – the Austrian Squash Challenge – came to an end. After two weeks of squash on the all-glasscourt at EUROPARK Salzburg shopping mall the final of the 6.000 USD Mozart Open men PSA world ranking tournamnt took place.

The final was decided between third seed Jakub Solnicky (CZE, WRL 117) and fifth seed Macéo Levy (FRA, WRL 126) who eliminated local favourite Aqeel Rehman in the semifinal 3/2.

Another full crowd was very excited about the match in which the Frenchman had the better start taking the opening two games 11/9 and 11/7. However the rallies were very even, long and lasting 15 and 13 minutes. Macéo Levy mostly had the better end though and that little bit more of control.

The higher seeded Czech fought back well in the third game by winning it impressively 11/6 showing great skills and execution shots.

The fourth game was the most exciting one. Both players lifted their game even more and showing what an important stage of the match it was. The intensity, shot quality and retrieving skills were incredible. No player was able to get a deciding lead and a tiebreak was the logical consequence. Before that Jakub Solnicky couldn’t convert a game ball at 10/9. Some more dramatic rallies later Macéo Levy went up 11/10 and took his first chance to eventuelly win it 12/10 and therefore win the match 3/1 after 62min.

It was Macéo Levy’s first PSA title. The full score was:

[5] Macéo Levy (FRA, WRL 126) – [3] Jakub Solnicky (CZE, WRL 117) – 11/9, 11/7, 6/11, 12/10 63min

The final and the prize giving ceremony was attended by council Tarik Mete who awarded the trophies to the players.
